Apistogramma cf. geisleri Description :
Mis à part la taille et la couleur, il n’y a pas de distinction flagrante entre le mâle Apistogramma geisleri et la femelle. Le mâle mesure 7 à 8 cm et la femelle 5 à 6 cm.
Le mâle Apistogramma geisleri possède des tâches bleu clair sur les joues. Les femelles ont les même tâches, mais beaucoup moins prononcées.
La tâche caudale (spot) est verticale.

Ces barres sont particulièrement visibles sur les jeunes et les femelles.

Il y a quatre espèces décrite scientifiquement et au moins trois espèces actuellement placées à l’intérieur du complexe.

Les espèces du complexe regani sont distribuées dans les cours d’eau le long de la moyenne et basse Amazonie tout à fait à sa bouche. Les espèces sont également trouvés le long de la côte atlantique nord de l’Amazonie à la Guyana et la frontière du Venezuela. Une espèce est également présente dans la partie supérieure du Rio Madeira drainage, et d’autres dans l’Amazonie péruvienne.
